Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! books, and the greater Fighting Fantasy canon they are a part of, aren’t exactly a novel idea nowadays, but back then, to me at least, they were something new and endlessly exciting.įast-forward three-and-a-half decades, and I’m playing Roadwarden, a text-based adventure by Moral Anxiety Studio very much in the vein of those old choose-your-own-adventure game books. ![]() In the late ‘80s, I stumbled across something strange and wondrous: a book that you didn’t just read but actually played! Armed with paper, pencil, dice, and my imagination, I jumped back and forth between numbered sections in a non-linear fashion and survived (or died, over and over) only by the skin of my teeth. ![]()
